On April 30, 2024, the Samarkand solar photovoltaic project, undertaken by Dongfang Electric Corporation, was connected to the grid with full capacity for power generation. It will meet the electricity needs of 260,000 households in Uzbekistan, reducing approximately 230,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
The company has also established the "Silk Road Library-Chinese Bookshelf" in Uzbekistan, set up a protected area for the endangered Central Asian tortoise, and provided over 2,000 job opportunities for the locals. The Chinese company’s efforts has helped the locals transform magnificently from a barren land to a happy community with turtle nursery, a window of culture and a blue ocean of energy.
