The upcoming seventh China International Import Expo will be powered by green energy with green power certificates, according to the State Grid Shanghai Municipal Electric Power Co.
Some 10,000 green power certificates equating to 10 million kilowatt-hours of electricity generated from renewable sources have been purchased. The green electricity will ensure the green power demand of the CIIE venue National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) from Nov 5 through 10 during the event.
This green power transaction is the first green certificate transaction completed by a Shanghai-based power company as the city strives to promote green electricity consumption and green power certificate transactions.
More than 20 million green power certificates were traded across Shanghai this year, more than 40 times the annual trading volume of 2023.
Green power certificates are now assessed and issued by the National Energy Administration. Each certificate represents 1,000 kWh of green power generated from renewable sources, according to public information.
