The launch meeting for the Central SOEs Advanced Power Equipment Innovation Consortium, organized by Dongfang Electric Corporation (DEC) under the guidance of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC), has been held in Chengdu.
In order to fully implement the new national strategy of tackling critical core technologies and accelerate collaborative innovation and development between central state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and various innovation entities, SASAC has initiated the formation of the third batch of innovation consortiums, focusing on priority areas.
The Central SOEs Advanced Power Equipment Innovation Consortium brings together several renowned universities, research institutions, and upstream and downstream enterprises in the power equipment sector. It aims to systematically overhaul core technologies that hinder high-quality development in the industry, accelerating the integration of technological and industrial innovation, and building an independent, controllable, safe and efficient power equipment industrial chain.
The consortium will focus on critical elements of the manufacturing technology innovation system, including key technologies, R&D design, manufacturing equipment, validation platforms and standards. It will target nine major areas: Gas turbines, wind power, hydropower, green coal-fired power, nuclear power, solar thermal energy, physical energy storage, new energy and integrated energy systems. The consortium has already outlined 41 key projects, aimed at developing important products, creating advanced demonstration projects and validation platforms, and enhancing the supply of original technologies in the advanced power equipment field. This will better support the development of new power systems and facilitate the construction of a new energy system.
Looking ahead, the consortium will focus on building an open and integrated organizational model, with core efforts directed at addressing critical and common industrial technologies. The localization of key products will serve as a key vehicle for this initiative.
The consortium will undertake specialized actions in core technology breakthroughs, common technology challenges, demonstration applications, foundational capacity building and industry development research. It will also accelerate research into forward-looking and disruptive technologies, ensuring timely adjustments to key projects as needed.
The consortium aims to build a national strategic technological force capable of meeting major challenges in the advanced power equipment sector, contributing to China’s goal of achieving high-level technological self-reliance.
