The project was completed by the China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) in association with Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina).
The highway features a dual carriageway with four lanes, spans approximately 11 kilometers, connects Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Croatian port of Ploce and extends further to the Hungarian capital Budapest. Upon completion, the travel time from Capljina to Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital, will be reduced from two and a half hours to just 90 minutes.

As the first highway project built by Chinese enterprises in Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is of significant importance to the region’s economic landscape. CSCEC was responsible for the main highway, while a consortium of PowerChina and Azerbaijani companies handled the construction of the bridges. The cost of the Pocitelj-Zvirovici section is estimated at 100 million euros (786 million yuan).

While the opening of the Pocitelj-Zvirovici subsection connects Bosnia and Herzegovina’s southwestern border with Croatia, the free movement of people and goods will be further enhanced when the entire project is completed. The highway is poised to become a major transportation artery linking Central and Eastern European countries.
