CNPC Offshore Engineering Company Limited, a subsidiary of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), recently signed a contract with the project's general contractor, McDermott Group from the United States and Qingdao McDermott (Wuchuan), for the construction of the Qatar Ruya jacket.
It marks the largest jacket construction project in the history of CNPC, with the initial contract amount exceeding $100 million.
The jacket is the steel main structure that transmits loads within an offshore oil platform, serving as the fixed foundation of the platform. The Qatar Ruya jacket construction project involves processing over 60,000 tons of steel, with the largest single unit weighing nearly 10,000 tons.
The project adheres to the highest global standards, with extremely stringent quality requirements. The construction period for the project spans four years, covering processing design, auxiliary material procurement, construction, loading, and sealing work.
In recent years, CNPC Offshore Engineering Company Limited has continuously expanded its market, realizing the transition from low-end to high-end and from domestic to international markets. The project marks the first time the company’s offshore business has ventured into the globally significant oil and gas replacement zone of the Middle East oil and gas market, and represents another upgrade in its international market development. Currently, the company is mobilizing the best resources and making all necessary preparations to ensure the project starts on schedule.
