China Marine Bunker (PetroChina) Co., Ltd. (CHIMBUSCO) recently bunkered 3,850 tons of biofuel into the XIN YA ZHOU vessel of COSCO Shipping Lines Co., Ltd. at the Shekou Container Terminal Co., Ltd., in Shenzhen, South China’s Guangdong province. The bunkering process took more than 14 hours, was the largest domestic single-vessel biofuel bunkering operation, and marked a new level of large-scale biofuel oil supply of domestic vessels.
As a renewable alternative to petroleum-based diesel, the use of low-carbon and environmentally friendly biodiesel is of great significance for China to achieve carbon reduction goals, control air pollution, enrich the energy mix, ensure energy security and improve the proportion of renewable energy in the field of transportation fuels. The B24 vessel biofuel oil bunkered this time was a physical blend of 24 percent biodiesel and 76 percent low-sulfur fuel oil, which can reduce carbon emissions by about 20.4 percent. In the world's major hub ports, such as the Port of Singapore and the Port of Rotterdam, biofuel refueling has become large scale. The successful refueling of the largest vessel biofuel oil in China has played a key leading role in the green development of energy in China's shipping industry and its maritime service capability.
In recent years, the CHIMBUSCO has issued the first domestic regulation on the bunkering of vessel methanol fuel and a safety standard of IBC reuse, and successfully declared pilot zones for biodiesel promotion and application guided by the National Energy Administration, taking the lead in the industry domestically in green energy supply. The successful bunkering of this vessel biofuel has achieved a new breakthrough in the field of green shipping energy supply of the CHIMBUSCO, showcasing its responsibility in energy conservation and emission reduction and enhancing the core competitiveness of the enterprise market.
