On June 10, the first CKD6S locomotive, a significant outcome of China-Kazakhstan cooperation in the rail transportation sector under the Belt and Road Initiative, rolled off the production line.
The locomotive was specially developed by CRRC Ziyang Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of CRRC Corporation Limited.
During the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in October 2023, as witnessed by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, CRRC signed a cooperation agreement with Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ). The CKD6S locomotive in question is the first locomotive produced under this agreement.
The CKD6S locomotive is China's first shunting locomotive designed for EAC certification. It was specially developed by CRRC Ziyang Co., Ltd. for the specific needs of Kazakhstan railways.
The locomotive features a wide temperature range adaptability and is designed to strengthen cold resistance for locomotive components such as the driver's cab in extremely cold operating environments of -50℃. Additionally, it takes into account the ventilation and cooling requirements of the summer limit of +50℃.
Equipped with a diesel engine developed with proprietary technology, the locomotive employs advanced technologies such as electronic fuel injection control, and boasts low fuel consumption and low emissions, meeting UIC (International Union of Railways) IIIA emission standards.
This type of locomotive will be used for shunting operations across various depots in Kazakhstan. The delivery of the locomotives will further deepen and expand the cooperation between China and Kazakhstan in the field of rail transportation, contributing to the economic development of Kazakhstan.
