China Coal Group Sets New Record for Monthly Shaft Sinking at Turkish Mine

Updated: May 31, 2024

China Coal Construction Group, a subsidiary of China National Coal Group Corporation (China Coal Group), recently completed construction of the main shaft and related chambers at the Balya lead-zinc mine in Turkey.

Over six consecutive months, the vertical shaft excavation consistently exceeded 100 meters per month, with a peak monthly advance of 116 meters, setting a new record for monthly shaft sinking in Turkey.

Located in Balya Town, Balıkesir, the shaft sinking project at the Esan-Balya lead-zinc mine reaches a depth of 850 meters.

China Coal Group continuously optimized construction plans, ensured precise control over each process, and introduced special assessment methods for each team, motivating everyone to rigorously follow standard operating procedures. This effectively balanced safety and production coordination among teams, allowing the shaft construction to progress smoothly.

To ensure safe production, the company reinforced safety responsibilities, integrating comprehensive safety awareness and dynamic safety management into a cohesive system. It helped achieve zero safety accidents, zero external disputes, zero rework for quality, zero mechanical impact, zero equipment defects, and zero inspection omissions.

During the construction period, Turkish engineers were hired to participate in project management, and job opportunities were offered to local residents. The team also collaborated with local government and mine owners to conduct various safety activities, which effectively facilitated the integration of management cultures and ensured high-quality completion of the project.
