The Luassim Hydropower Station is located on the Luassim River in Lunda Norte in Angola, about three kilometers northeast of the center of Dundo city.

The old power station was built in 1953 and put into operation in 1957, with an initial power generation capacity of 8.8 MW. In order to improve energy supply capacity, the Ministry of Energy and Water of Angola launched a hydropower station restoration and expansion project in 2016. After the expansion, the power generation capacity will increase from 8.8 MW to 34 MW.

The Luassim Hydropower Station is a key project in a series of clean energy strategies and action plans in Angola, which is of great significance to the development of local electricity, agriculture, and the animal husbandry and mining industries, as well as the improvement of social conditions.

As an important part of the power supply system in Lunda Norte, Angola, the hydropower station can effectively alleviate the electricity demands of several towns in Lunda Norte, and provide power energy for nearly 200,000 local residents and more than 30 industrial enterprises. Moreover, the project has also created approximately 3,000 direct jobs, making important contributions to the local economic and social development.
