Deployment of World's Largest Clean Energy Corridor Industrial Internet Platform Completed

Updated: April 28, 2024

The production data of the world's largest single-unit capacity one-million kilowatt hydro-generator units was smoothly uploaded, and the construction of a station-level industrial internet platform for the Baihetan Hydropower Station has achieved positive results, according to the China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG).

It marks the basic completion of the "industrial brain" of the world's largest clean energy corridor.

The world's largest clean energy corridor consists of six cascade power stations on the main stretch of the Yangtze River: Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, Three Gorges, and Gezhouba, which were fully completed on December 20, 2022.

Since 2020, China Yangtze Power Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of CTG, has initiated the construction of the "industrial brain" on the corridor. It has independently developed an industrial internet platform, and comprehensively improved the level of intelligent operation and maintenance of equipment to promote the digital construction of new generation hydropower stations.

"The coordinated optimization of the six cascade power stations is a world-class challenge, thus requiring the establishment of a hydroelectric 'industrial brain' based on advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence and big data models", said the person in charge of the Yangtze Power S & T Research Center.

Currently, the hydroelectric "industrial brain" has developed multiple "sub-brains" such as intelligent operation, intelligent early warning, diagnostic decision-making, status maintenance, and economic operation, and has been applied in the six basin cascade power stations.

For example, the intelligent early warning "sub-brain" has established an intelligent early warning system with multiple strategy methods, which can detect problems before the degradation turning point of equipment. It averages 7 to 30 days earlier than traditional threshold alarms, enabling prompt operation and maintenance and extending the service life of units.

The company will continue to explore the digital transformation of hydropower, accelerating the realization of the blueprint for intelligent hydropower.
