China Launches New Satellite for Atmospheric, Marine and Space Environment Monitoring

A Long March 6 carrier rocket was launched from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in North China's Shanxi Province on March 27, sending a Yunhai-3 02 satellite into preset orbit.

Generally developed by Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology, a subsidiary of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, the satellite will be mainly used in surveying atmospheric, marine, and space environments, and tasks related to disaster prevention and scientific experiments.

The Long March 6 carrier rocket, also developed by the company, is about 50 meters long and has a take-off weight of about 530 metric tons. Its carrying capacity in the sun-synchronous orbit 700 kilometers above the ground exceeds 4.5 tons.

The launch on March 27 was the first mission of the Long March 6 carrier rocket and was the 514th mission for the Long March series carrier rockets.
