Diversified digital tools developed by China United Network Communications Group Co. Ltd. (China Unicom) are helping with farming in all regions of China as spring approaches.
In recent years, China Unicom has made great endeavors to promote building of digital villages, which has enabled scientific technological forces to improve spring farming.
In Tonghua, Northeast China's Jilin Province, remote control of temperature, ventilating, supplementary lighting and high-definition monitoring has been installed in more than 50 greenhouses in Shanglongtou Village of Jinchang Town. Data related to temperature, humidity, light intensity and micronutrient levels of the soil in the greenhouses are sent onto a comprehensive monitoring platform, helping farmers learn about the condition of the vegetables and fruits in the greenhouses. Operation of the greenhouses has improved Jinchang's annual income by 23 percent year-on-year.
An application platform focusing on production, drying, storage and transportation, processing and circulation, as well as other related services, has been used in Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang Province. The platform integrates application scenarios like management of basic information, grain growing, circulation and future farm planning as well as relevant subsidies, and provides references for decision-making and accurate agricultural service for farmers so they can improve grain growing quality, farm management, and grain marketing.
In Central China's province of Hubei, China Unicom provides technical support to 235 rural cooperatives in more than 40 counties to help farmers rent farm machinery online. Farmers can obtain farm machinery renting information through the online platform, which lowers logistic and utilization costs and improves their farming activity and quality of life.

In Jinan, East China's Shandong Province, farmers can check the humidity, temperature, PH, and conductivity of the soil and air in the greenhouses on a smart phone thanks to a smart management system based on the Internet of Things (IoT) developed by China Unicom. They can also remotely control the greenhouse curtains, which adjust internal conditions, through a smart phone.
The vast farmland can also be checked with unmanned aerial vehicles installed with multispectral radar and high-definition cameras, which help with pest control and prevention, and disaster assessment.
In South China's Hainan Province, the hometown of tropical fruits, China Unicom built a Yanwo Fruit Industry Data Center in Qiongzhong County. By integrating data on seedlings, water and fertilizer, soil, weather, pests and diseases, market supply and demand, as well as market prices, the center provides a comprehensive and all-encompassing overview of the industry.
China Unicom built a big data-based analysis model to manage the entire life cycle and production process of tropical high-efficiency fruits such as Yanwo fruit using 5G networks, big data, and the IoT. The technologies support standardized production, visualized management, and precise decision-making, which ensures fruit quality.
China Unicom actively fulfills its responsibilities as a central state-owned enterprise, leveraging its digital advantages in the industry and promoting the construction of digital village platforms.
