Updated: March 07, 2024

China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CREC) has inked an agreement to play a role in construction of the stadium and supporting facilities for the 2034 World Cup in Saudi Arabia.

Located in Jeddah of Mecca, the project is planned to cover about 500,000 square meters and to include construction of a stadium and four sports villages.

The stadium is designed with a total building area of 360,000 sq m, with two underground and seven on-ground stories. With a designed height of 54 meters, the stadium is expected to hold a maximum of 46,000 spectators.

The stadium will be built to the standards and requirements of the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and its design was inspired by the traditional architecture in the ancient town of Al-Balad.

The roof of the stadium will adopt a large-span steel structure and the membrane structure, and the roof membrane area over the turf is stretchable to allow for changes in the weather.

About 14,000 sq m of solar power photovoltaic panels will be used on the stadium to make it a green venue.

In order to provide spectators with a comfortable experience, an air conditioner system is installed in the venue and under the seats.

The sports villages surrounding the stadium will provide commercial, entertainment, medical and education services during the event.

CREC also contributed to construction of the Lusail Stadium in Doha, the main venue of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

These construction projects are expected to drive the export of China-made products, and Chinese designs and technologies and will build landmarks for high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative.
