Baihetan Dam Project Enters Full Operation Period

Updated: February 06, 2024

The Baihetan Dam project entered full operation period as it was delivered to China Yangzte Power Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Three Gorges Corporation on Jan 31, 2024.

A dam is the core section of a hydropower project and is responsible for blocking and sluicing water. Its quality decides the lifespan of a hydropower project.

Located over the Jinsha River on the border of Southwest China's Yunnan and Sichuan provinces, the Baihetan Dam is a 300-meter dome dam and started concreting on April 12, 2017.

The Baihetan Hydropower Station started impounding water on April 6, 2021 and was fully put into operation on Dec 20, 2022.

The reservoir has stored water to its normal impounding level twice and the operation index such as temperature stress, deformation and displacement, as well as seepage and seepage-pressure of the dam were better than the designed ones.
