A section of the intercity line linking Shenzhen Baoan International Airport and Qianhai in South China’s Guangdong Province, the country’s longest undersea tunnel, was recently dug through. It was constructed by China Railway 14th Bureau Group Corporation Limited, a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC).
The undersea tunnel is about 3.1 kilometers long and was excavated with the “Shenwan No 1” tunnel boring machine with an excavation diameter of 9.14 meters.
The 15.2 railway line is an underground section of the Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen intercity railway and has a designed speed of 160 kilometers per hour.

Located in the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong and the West Shenzhen development zones of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the line is a key part of the intercity railway network.
Once operational, it is expected to boost intercity railway effectiveness between Guangzhou, Dongguan and Shenzhen, and to improve the intercity railway network of the Greater Bay Area so as to realize regional economic integrated development.
