Starting from the southwestern fifth ring road, the Beijing section of the Beijing-Xiongan Highway stretches over the Yongding River, the Fangshan subway line and the Beijing-Shenzhen Highway in the West, and spans over the sixth ring road in the South.

The total length of the section is about 27 kilometers and includes a grand bridge, four overpasses, one toll station of the main line, three toll stations on the ramps and a management center as well as a road maintenance zone.

Construction of the section started in December 2020.

The 1.62-kilometer Beijing-Xiongan Bridge of the highway is China's first special-shaped arch steel girder bridge and has the longest span of its kind in Beijing. Digital twin technology was adopted during its construction, which improved engineering quality.

The Fangshan North Railway Station is the first land overpass mainline toll station in Beijing. Vehicles are separated into different lines according to their speed and type, which has improved traffic efficiency.

As a demonstration smart road in China, the Beijing section of the Beijing-Xiongan Highway is the first highway to set up a reserved smart highway lane in the country. Vehicles running on the lane are expected to be provided with communication, highly-accurate navigation and alerting services.

Adoption of the advanced technologies makes the highway the first smart highway in China to be fully covered with a 5G special network, vehicle-road cooperation, and a positioning service supported by the BeiDou navigation positioning system.

The Beijing-Xiongan Highway is intended to help build the one-hour living circle of Beijing and Xiongan, and strengthen connectivity between South Beijing and the downtown areas, the Daxing International Airport and the Xiongan New Area.

It is also expected to play a key role in relieving Beijing of non-essential functions related to its status as the nation's capital while advancing the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
