In the prefecture-level city of Taizhou in East China's Zhejiang province, the local branch of the State Grid — a state-owned enterprise in the country and the world's largest utility provider — said its tasks of safeguarding local energy security and economic lifeline have been well accomplished in 2023.

Wang Yicheng, a staffer from State Grid Taizhou Power Supply Co, said his company's region-wide power supply reliability and voltage qualification rate again surpassed 99.8 percent in December, meaning both urban and rural dwellers in the region enjoyed successful energy supply in the past year.

"Our successful operations derived from the local economic vitality," he said, adding that booming businesses in the region boosted their expansions.

Wang noted that with a total population of over 6.04 million, Taizhou's regional GDP hit 600 billion yuan ($84.5 billion) in 2022, offering a per capita income of 70,737 yuan for urban residents and 37,700 for rural dwellers.

"The three districts, three county-level cities and three counties under the jurisdiction of Taizhou all have booming economic development, but they are also busy with social progress," he said, adding that the social progress includes local residents' rich and colorful cultural life.

Since 2022, to enrich the cultural life of local residents, the city has welcomed China Central Television (CCTV) under China Media Group to broadcast a New Year's Eve party for three consecutive years in Taizhou to help usher in the New Year.

The grand gala was held in the city of Linhai in 2022, in Huangyan district in 2023, and Jiaojiang district in 2024, said Cao Qionglei from State Grid Taizhou Power Supply Co.
