The Huaneng Shantou Lemen offshore wind power project, the first of its kind at the 10-million-kilowatt offshore wind power base in East Guangdong Province, recently started operation.
It is the first offshore wind power project developed by China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd. (China Huaneng) in Guangdong.

A key project of the region during the country's 14th Five Year Plan (2021-25) period, it is an icon of the 10-million-kW energy base integrating wind, photovoltaic, hydropower and thermal power generation as well as energy storage in East Guangdong.
With a total installed capacity of 600,000 kW, the project is equipped with 54 11-megawatt wind turbines and has a 220-kilovolt offshore booster station and an onshore switching station.
Once operational, the project is expected to provide 2 billion kilowatt-hours of clean power annually, equaling that produced by burning about 650,000 metric tons of standard coal and a reduction of 1.8 million tons carbon dioxide, which is of great significance in green and low-carbon development in the region.

It's worth noting that the project is equipped with China Huaneng-developed 11-MW direct-driven offshore turbines, the first time in China, and adopts 220-kV cables with copper core and smooth aluminum sheath having the world's largest cross section. The 66-kV wet-type light marine cable was also used in the project for the first time.
China's first 5G dual-level security network and the integrated smart sensing and monitoring system were developed during construction of the project, making it a safe, smart and environmentally-friendly offshore wind power demonstration project and setting a model for future offshore wind power project.
