Updated: December 29, 2023

The Lekki Port in Nigeria, the first deepsea port in West Africa, opens for service on Jan 23.

Invested, built and operated by China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC), the project is the first modern deepsea port in the country.

With a draft of 16.5 meters and a wharf wall of 1,523 meters, the port is available for the world's largest container ship and is capable of handling 1.2 million standard containers annually.

A star under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, the port is equipped with advanced port equipment and technologies such as modern container terminals, a smart port management system, and a fast-checking system.

Its operation is expected to promote export of Nigeria's local products and improve the country's shipping and international trade capacities.
