Updated: December 20, 2023

China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd.(ENERGY CHINA) recently won the bid for the 1,000-megawatt photovoltaic (PV) project of the clean energy base for connectivity in North Laos.

The project is expected to be the clean energy project with the largest installed capacity in the country and the largest single capacity of its kind in Southeast Asia.

Located in Oudomxay Province, the project is about 30 kilometers from Mohan Town in Southwest China's Yunnan Province.

With a designed installed capacity of 1,000 MW, the project will include construction of a 500-kilovolt transformer substation, a 500-kV power transmission line and a maintenance center.

Once operational, the project is expected to export nearly 1.69 billion kilowatt-hours of power annually, equaling that produced by burning about 510,400 metric tons of standard coal and eliminating emissions of more than 1.4 million tons, 269.95 tons, 302.01 tons and 53.99 tons of carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and smoke and dust respectively.

The project will contribute to local economic development, drive green and low-carbon transformation of the local energy structure, promote high-quality and sustainable social and economic development and improve development and construction of the local material and traffic industries. It will also contribute to local employment and improvement of local workers' technical skills.

It's worth noting that in addition to meeting local power demand, power generated from the project will also be sent to China.
