CREC Contributes to Railway Construction in Malaysia

Updated: December 18, 2023

The Penglai smart track laying machine started operation in Malaysia on Dec 11, marking the beginning of the track-laying of the East Coast Rail Link.

The machine was specially developed for the project by China Railway Hi-Tech Industry Co., Ltd. (CRHIC), a subsidiary of China Railway Group Limited (CREC). It consists of a rail tractor, a main engine, a traction locomotive, a sleeper transportation train, a rail frame crane and hydraulic and electrical systems. It has outstanding performance in intelligentization, precision, engineering efficiency and adaptability.

It's worth noting that the machine is easy to disassemble and transport and can be used in laying various kinds of tracks such as ballasted and ballast-less lines as well as tunnel railway components.

Adopting smart movement and fault diagnosis systems as well as laser raging interlock technology, the equipment is capable of automatically identifying the operation line and adjusting direction, discovering faults and sending alarms, and controlling distance with other engineering vehicles.

The East Coast Rail Link is a flagship project of the Belt and Road cooperation. With a total length of about 665 kilometers, it connects the West and East coasts of the country and is expected to drive economic development of the East coast region and improve local connectivity.
