Updated: December 14, 2023

The China Jinping Underground Laboratory (CJPL), the world's deepest and largest of its kind, started early scientific research on Dec 7, with 10 scientific groups beginning work. It is jointly built by Yalong River Hydropower Development Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of State Development & Investment Corp., Ltd., and Tsinghua University.

Construction of the project started in December 2020.

It is the first ultra-deep underground laboratory infrastructure in China and the world's largest integral experimental facility with an ultra-low radiation background.
