Located in the Huangpu District of Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong Province, the branch covers an area of about 40,000 square meters and includes a scientific research building, a utility supporting building and an outdoor smart meteorological equipment comprehensive experimental observation field.
The project was contracted by China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Group Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC).
The project was built in accordance with the principle of the harmony between man and nature, aiming to balance the relation between nature and the construction and to build a green high-rise office building, according to the project manager, who explained that the project is installed with energy recovery, air-conditioning heat recycling and fresh air systems, which realizes low energy consumption, low emission and high-performance operation of the whole building.
There are now 10 WMCs in the world and the WMC Beijing is the only one located in a developing country.
Once operational, the branch will provide all-round weather forecasting services for Portuguese-speaking countries and countries and regions participating in the Belt and Road Initiative. It is also expected to support high-quality economic development of the Greater Bay Area.
