Updated: December 11, 2023

A ceremony was held on Nov 30 in Cambodia to mark successful closure of the Upper Tatay Hydropower Station project. Now all involved parties are looking forward to the construction of the main body of the dam.

Invested and built by China National Machinery Industry Corporation (Sinomach), the Upper Tatay Hydropower Station is a cascade station of the Tatay Hydropower Station, which is about 20 kilometers away.

The project has a designed capacity of 150 megawatts and is planned to be completed within four years. Sinomach holds the franchise rights of the station for 35 years.

Once operational, the station will work together with the Tatay Hydropower Station and effectively play a role in flood control. It is also expected to improve energy supply and employment in the country, and to support its economic and social development.

Sinomach has been developing in Cambodia for many years. The Tatay Hydropower Station built and operated by the company has generated power exceeding the designed capacity for nine consecutive years.

The cascade hydropower stations over the Tatay River have driven more than 300 Chinese enterprises to develop in the country and provided jobs for more than 30,000 local people.
