The Datong-Jungar Railway starts from Datong City in Shanxi Province and ends at Xuejiawan, Jungar Banner, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The main line covers a total length of 264 kilometers and passes through six county-level regions of the two provincial regions. It is the westward extension of the Datong-Qinhuangdao Railway, the major corridor for transporting coal from the west to the east, and is specifically designed as a first-class single track electrified railway. It serves local coal suppliers in Inner Mongolia and Shanxi, transporting over ten types of goods, including coal, iron ore, iron ore powder, fly ash, and fodder.
In recent years, Xinshuo Railway has focused on enhancing the capabilities of the transportation corridor, increasing efforts in transportation organization, cargo source coordination, and boundary coordination, and advancing the "2+0" and "1+1" 10,000-ton traction operation model, as well as service approach reform.
The maintenance cycle of its electric locomotives has been scientifically adjusted, reducing depot downtime to 3.8 hours, increasing station exchange rate by 26 percent year-on-year, and maximizing the provision of sufficient and high-quality locomotive power.
Xinshuo Railway also promotes the advancement of the consolidation and transportation of the transportation corridor, and has completed and opened five dedicated lines. As of Nov 19 this year the Xinshuo Railway had transported over 150 million tons of goods, a year-on-year increase of 9.5 percent and a record high for the same period.
