Bangladesh's First Green Fertilizer Factory Starts Operation

Updated: November 20, 2023

The Bangladesh Ghorashal-Polash Urea Fertilizer Project (GPUFP), undertaken by China National Chemical Engineering & Construction Corporation Seven, Ltd. (CC7), started operation recently, producing qualified urea in a single run and laying a solid foundation for the comprehensive operation of the project.

Located in the Narsingdi district of Bangladesh, the project is a landmark initiative directly invested by the Bangladeshi government to ensure stable agricultural production and income growth. It is the largest fertilizer project in Bangladesh and the country's first-ever green fertilizer factory.

The annual designed production capacity of the project is 500,000 tons of synthetic ammonia, 800,000 tons of urea, and the recovery and utilization of 80,000 tons of carbon dioxide. CC7 was responsible for the project's construction and part of the procurement work.

Since the project started construction in August 2020, CC7 has adhered to green principles and striven to build a high quality project through ensuring progress, overcoming difficulties, and improving quality and efficiency. The company also fulfilled its social responsibilities by caring for project employees, addressing employment needs, and contributing to social welfare.

Once in full operation, the project is expected to significantly meet Bangladesh's growing demand for fertilizers, reducing the country's reliance on fertilizer imports and ensuring food security.
