Norinco International Signs EPC Contract for Dhi Qar Refinery Project in Iraq

NORINCO International Cooperation Ltd. (NORINCO International), a subsidiary of China North Industries Group Corporation Limited (NORINCO Group), signed an EPC general contracting framework contract with UAE-based Awsat Energy for the Dhi Qar Refinery project in Iraq at the Belt and Road CEO Conference of the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

The contract is valued at approximately $2 billion and NORINCO International will focus on preliminary site surveys, design, procurement, construction, and trial operations of the oil refinery.

The Dhi Qar Refinery is located in the Dhi Qar governorate, Iraq. Once completed, it will primarily produce gasoline, diesel, liquefied petroleum gas, as well as chemical products like xylene, benzene, and sulfur.

This project is of significant importance to improving Iraq's crude oil refining capacity and increasing its self-sufficiency in refined oil products. It will also promote local economic and social development, create a large number of job opportunities, and help in training local talents.

In addition, it marks NORINCO International's first large-scale petroleum refinery project and will further enrich and enhance its business portfolio for high-quality development.

During the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, NORINCO International also signed an agreement with Canada's Thor Explorations for the EPC project of the Newstar lithium mine in Nigeria. According to this contract, NORINCO International is responsible for constructing a lithium ore processing plant with an annual capacity of one million tons in Nigeria, including civil construction, equipment supply and installation, and supporting infrastructure development.
