Adhering to the going global strategy, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) has been diligently nurturing international oil and gas partnerships and has made many achievements. These included the CNPC's successful bids for several projects, such as the Libra oilfield project in Brazil in 2013, the world's largest deepwater oil development project – the Buzios oil and gas field in Brazil, and a deep-sea offshore exploration block in the Santos Basin, Brazil. Over a decade of dedication and meticulous work, CNPC has forged a deepwater oil and gas comprehensive industrial chain, from exploration to development, offshore construction, trial production, and oil offloading and sales. This concerted effort has allowed the CNPC's deepwater oil and gas operations in Brazil to achieve leapfrog development, growing from non-existence to prominence. These projects in Brazil have become a vital component of the CNPC's international oil and gas business.

CNPC has also built model projects in Central Asia, including the China-Kazakhstan oil pipeline and the China-Central Asia natural gas pipeline, forging a new "Energy Silk Road" in the new era. The China-Central Asia natural gas pipeline, the first multinational pipeline led by CNPC, has witnessed innovative practices during its construction and operation, which have accumulated invaluable experience in energy collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative.

The Shymkent Oil Refinery is a collaborative project between CNPC and the national oil and gas company of Kazakhstan. It is a key project of China-Kazakhstan energy cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative. It has played an important role in ensuring the supply of refined oil products in Kazakhstan, improving the ecological environment, and fostering economic and social development. In 2022, the Shymkent Oil Refinery completed its first carbon emission trading, making CNPC the first enterprise in Kazakhstan to carry out carbon trading.

CNPC places strong emphasis on minimizing its environmental impact in its global operations. When constructing and operating the Myanmar-China oil and gas pipelines, advanced technologies were employed to prevent harm to local forest vegetation. During the trench crossing of the pipeline in the seabed, innovative techniques were used to protect the marine ecology and mangrove forests.
