The D6171 Fuxing high-speed bullet train left Guiyang North Station, Guiyang, Guizhou Province on Aug 8, marking that the Guiyang-Libo section of the Guiyang-Nanning high-speed railway has opened for operation. The Guiyang-Libo section was designed by China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group Co., Ltd., constructed by China Railway First Group, China Railway Second Group Co., Ltd, China Railway Third Group Co., Ltd, China Railway Fourth Group Co., Ltd, Wuhan Railway Electrification Bureau Group Co., Ltd, and China Railway Guangzhou Engineering Group Co., Ltd, and third-party tested by China Railway Academy Co., Ltd.

The Guiyang-Nanning high-speed railway is located in the Southeast of Guizhou Province and the Northwest of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. It starts from Guiyang City, Guizhou in the north and ends in Nanning City, Guangxi in the south. The line is 482 kilometers long and has 12 stations. It is the first high-speed railway between Guizhou and Guangxi with a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour. The section from Guiyang to Libo has a total length of 175 kilometers, with five stations. It passes through the Guizhou Plateau and Miaoling Mountains and crosses the Qingshui River, the Chengjiang River, and the Hongshui River. Due to the complex and diverse landform types, geological disasters such as karst landslides occur from time to time, and the bridge-to-tunnel ratio of the line is as high as 90 percent. Subsidiaries of China Railway Group Limited undertook the construction of the roadbed, tunnels, bridges and culverts, and track laying, as well as communication, signal, power and electrification engineering of the Guiyang-Libo section of the Guiyang-Nanning high-speed railway.

During the construction process, the project team built a girder fabrication yard for the Guiyang-Nanning high-speed railway in Duyun City, Guizhou, based on extensive research on key fabrication yard technologies including a concrete foundation, which effectively reduces damage to the roadbed. The project team has established a technology innovation studio that cooperated with universities to conduct research on key technologies for high-speed railway electrification engineering with a higher bridge-tunnel ratio in China, and promoted the research and application of BIM technology in communication, signal, power and electrification engineering projects. The project team also compiled technical regulations for application of railway machine-made sand and filled the gap in this field.

The Guiyang-Nanning high-speed railway is an important part of a massive "eight vertical and eight horizontal" high-speed railway network in China's medium and long-term railway network planning, and it is also a key line connecting new north-south passages of the Belt and Road land route. The Guiyang-Libo section shortens the travel time between Guiyang and Libo to 57 minutes, which is of great significance for improving the travel conditions of people along the line, optimizing the tourist routes of Guizhou and Guangxi, and promoting the revitalization of villages and high-quality economic and social development along the line.
