Updated: August 03, 2023

The international cargo terminal of Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport undertaken by China Construction Fourth Engineering Division Corp. Ltd, a subsidiary of China State Construction Engineering Corporation, was put into operation on July 31.

The terminal is a key construction project in East China's Zhejiang Province and a guarantee project for the Hangzhou Asian Games.

The project is located in the cargo area of Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport, covering an area of 156,600 square meters, and consists of a three-story international cargo station, a customs inspection center, and customs checkpoints.

Benchmarked against the world's top cargo terminals, it aims to be an efficient, flexible and forward-looking air cargo comprehensive platform integrating function, business and operations.

To meet the vertical transportation needs of cargo, the project adopts circle ramps and intelligent three-dimensional facilities. In combination with the vertical transportation system, pallet elevators, container elevators, ETV (Elevated Transfer Vehicle), and heavy-duty freight elevators, the project enables vehicles and freight to be transported to upper-level structures.

In addition, the project uses an automated and information-based container cargo handling system and a bulk cargo handling system, which improves the efficiency of air cargo operations and enhances the airport's logistics service capabilities. The use of intelligent cargo transport systems can save 70 percent of labor.

Now that the project is in use, it has become the first three-story structure, intelligent and automated airport international cargo terminal in China.

It is estimated that by 2035, the terminal's annual cargo and mail throughput will reach 600,000 tons. It will help consolidate the comprehensive strength of the airport in cargo development and strengthen its status as a regional aviation hub. In addition, it will also empower the construction of the China (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone, and promote the high-quality development of the nation's airport economy.
