The construction of the main project of Indonesia's Upper Cisokan Pumped Storage Power Plant, built by China Gezhouba Group Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (Energy China), kicked off on July 5, marking the start of construction of the power project.
The Upper Cisokan Pumped Storage Power Plant is located in the upper reaches of the Cisokan River in Java, Indonesia, 190 kilometers from the capital Jakarta. It is the first pumped storage power plant in Indonesia designed with four generating units, a capacity of 260 MW each and a total installed capacity of 1,040 MW.
As one of Energy China's landmark projects of the Belt and Road Initiative, the project is of great significance to help implement the Indonesian government's renewable energy goal of accounting for 23 percent of total energy by 2025 and achieving energy transformation.
Once completed, it will supply 147.9 billion watt-hours of green power to the Java-Bali power grid every year, promote the development of clean and renewable energy locally, and greatly enhance peak-shaving capacity and power grid stability in the region.
