First China-Made 50-m Steel Rails Export to Europe Delivered

Updated: June 14, 2023

A train carrying 50-meter steel rails weighing about 758 metric tons arrived in Serbia on June 7. The China-made rails were the first exported to Europe by train and would be used in track-laying of the Budapest-Belgrade railway.

The Budapest-Belgrade railway is an important project under the cooperation between China and a Central and Eastern European country. It is also a docking project between the Chinese railway technology and equipment and the technical specifications of the European Union's railway.

Once operational, travel time between Budapest and Belgrade, capital cities of Hungary and Serbia, respectively, will be cut from 8 to about 3 hours. It will improve interconnectivity between Central and Eastern European countries and support high-quality development of the co-construction of the Belt and Road between China and Europe.
