The Wairane Hydropower Station in Laos has been put into full service as its two generator units started operation on May 26 and 28.

Contracted by Sinohydro Bureau 10 Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA), the diversion-type hydropower station sits over the middle and lower reaches of the Wairane River in Sekong Province in Southeast Laos.
With a total installed capacity of 60 megawatts, the station has a rated head of 600 meters and a quotative discharge of 11.8 cubic meters per second.
As a result of the power cooperation between China and Laos, the project shows the strengthened economic cooperation of the two countries and is expected to help improve local livelihoods and promote economic development in remote areas of Southeast Laos.
