Updated: June 08, 2023

The first pair of steel tracks was laid for the Hungarian section of the Hungary-Serbia Railway on May 30, marking the railway construction having comprehensively entered the track-laying stage.

The laying of this section will cover a distance of 7.98 kilometers, utilizing 120-meter-long steel rails through large laying machines.

The 152-km Hungarian section of the Hungary-Serbia Railway is being jointly built by China Railway No.9 Group Co., Ltd. and China Railway Electrification Engineering Group Co., Ltd, subsidiaries of China Railway Group Limited as well as their Hungarian partners. It started operation in July 2020 and entered the construction stage of the civil engineering in February 2022.

The Hungary-Serbia Railway serves as a landmark project of cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European Countries. The railway line is also a docking project between Chinese railway technical equipment and EU Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSI).

The railway line will connect Budapest to Belgrade. Once completed and operational, travel time between the capitals of Hungary and Serbia will be reduced from 8 hours to approximately 3.5 hours.
