Located about 230 kilometers from Luanda, capital of Angola, the station is over the middle reach of the Kwanza River, the mother river of the country.
As the third cascade hydropower station of the river, the Caculo Cabaca Hydropower Station has a total installed capacity of 2,172 megawatts and includes one main power station consisting of four 530-MW generator units, and one ecological station equipped with one 52-MW generator unit. The normal water level of the station is EL. 630 meters and the reservoir capacity is 436 million cubic meters.
Once operational, the project is expected to generate 856.6 billion kilowatt-hours of power annually, eliminating about 7.2 million metric tons of carbon dioxide and providing strong and stable power for economic and social development of Angola.
The profit generated by the project will be used in infrastructure construction and natural resource development, turning resource into economic advantage.
The project is also expected to help provide local people with high-quality water and support the country's infrastructure construction and development of mining industry with continuous green power.
China Gezhouba Group Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Group Co. Ltd. (ENERGY CHINA), is responsible for construction of the project.
During the peak construction period, the project will provide nearly 10,000 jobs for local people and during the four-year operation and maintenance of the station, the company will offer training courses focusing on power station construction and management to local people, intending to improve their technical skills.
