A vessel carrying 53,000 metric tons of feed corn arrived at Mayong Port in South China's Guangdong Province on May 4. It was China's first feed corn imported from South Africa.
Imported by COFCO Corporation, the corn will be delivered to Chinese feed enterprises after strict inspection and quarantine.
The import of the feed corn is a new result of deepening economic and trade cooperation between China and South Africa, and is expected to set a model for future mutual benefits and win-win cooperation between countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative.

A major agricultural product in South Africa, the corn accounts for 40 percent of the country's total agricultural output and both its output and export volume rank in the top 10 in the world. The South African commodity has low moisture and few impurities, making the country a major source of high-quality feed corn in the world.
COFCO Corporation will continue to strengthen supervision and market research, expand the purchase scale of feed corn from South Africa and explore regular feed corn importation from the country.
The company said that importing high-quality corn from South Africa to China will provide diversified feed material choices for its clients while promoting the development of South Africa's corn industry through international agricultural cooperation.
As China's largest and the first full-industrial agricultural and grain enterprise to have developed in the global market, COFCO Group has long been active in the South African market. It is now the largest comprehensive grain merchant with an international footing focusing on the processing trade in South Africa and has businesses in fields like agricultural farming, grain source purchasing, as well as agricultural storage and distribution.
