The ±800-kilovolt multi-terminal hybrid ultra-high-voltage (UHV) direct current (DC) demonstration power transmission project linking the Wudongde Hydropwoer Station in Southwest China to the country's southern regions of Guangdong Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region recently started annual maintenance.
It is the world's first multi-terminal hybrid UHV DC power transmission project.

According to the plan, 14 inspections will be completed of the section between Kunming in Southwest China's Yunnan Province and Liuzhou in Guangxi, which includes insulation resistance detection, cleaning, and appearance inspection of the ceramic insulators, and installation of a de-icing error diagnosis facility on the ground electrode, as well as changing of the self-detonating insulators.
The maintenance is expected to help improve safe operation of the facility and guarantee smooth power transmission from Yunnan to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
