China Telecom Corporation Limited (China Telecom) started construction of its integrated data center in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in Shaoguan, South China's Guangdong Province, on May 6.

Located in the Zhenjiang Industrial Park, the project is planned to cover an area of 98 mu (6.53 hectares) with a total investment of 3.2 billion yuan ($461.54 million).

The building area of the first phase project will be about 95000 square meters, and will include four data centers, two power centers, one computing power trading matching center, one equipment room as well as some outdoor facilities. It is expected to be a professional building cluster for business communication.

The project will act as a provincial-level communication and internet hub integrating cloud service, the internet and edge computing technologies. With full play given to China Telecom's computational resource advantage, the center is expected to provide cloud and computing operations, as well as management and regulation services for the government and users in other sectors.

China Telecom intends to build the project into a green and low-carbon innovative model for the country's integrated big data centers that will serve the development of a coordinated innovation system in South China and the Greater Bay Area and support the region's digital development.
