World's Largest Pile Driving Barge Supports Green Offshore Construction

Updated: May 11, 2023

YI HANG JIN ZHUANG, the world's largest pile driving barge, recently debuted in the Xiangshan waters of East China's Zhejiang Province.

As early as February the project team and the engineering barge had undergone simulation drilling in Xiangshan waters.

The engineering area was located near the Scomberomorus Niphonius National Aquatic Germplasm Resources Reserve and the work took place just as the breeding migration period was getting underway.

In order to avoid impacting the breeding of the fish with the low-frequency and high-energy blast waves produced during engineering, the project team systematically collected the steel pile weights and lengths, checked previous engineering experience and made several experiments to guarantee highly-efficient engineering and fish health.

What's more, the project team installed a power management system that can automatically adjust the operation of the generator as well as reduce energy consumption and release of exhaust gases.

Energy-saving and environmental protection is also seen in daily life of the crew of YI HANG JIN ZHUANG.

Fresh water resources are quite valuable offshore.

To reduce waste of fresh water, the project team added a return line and a temperature control magnetic valve, with which the crew on the barge were able to use hot water 7/24 and at the same time reduce waste of fresh water compared to the usage on traditional barges.

In addition, the project team upgraded the sewerage system on the barge and installed a fully automatic ballast water treatment device ,an oil-water separator and sewage recycling treatment equipment, intending to realize zero pollution in the surrounding environment.
