With a total length of 4,844 meters, the bridge includes a 1,197.6-meter south approach bridge, a 598.8-meter main channel bridge and a 3,047.6-meter north approach bridge.
The bridge is designed in 85 box girder segments totaling 1,101 pieces and adopts precast segment gluing engineering technology.
Located at the trumpet-shaped estuary of the Lupar River, the Lupar cross-sea bridge will be difficult to build because of frequent tides and the fast flow velocity.
Once operational, it is expected to be the longest bridge in East Malaysia, and will connect with the Borneo Highway in Sarawak State, ending the history of ferry-only river-crossing for people living on both sides of the river. It will also effectively improve the regional transportation network, which is of great significance to regional integration and development.
China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Railway Group Limited, is responsible for the project.
