The Barisal Power Plant in Bangladesh invested and built by Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA) obtained a commercial operating certificate from the Bangladesh Power Development Board on April 18.
The operation of the power plant will greatly improve the country's power and energy structure, relieve its imbalance between power supply and demand and bring new development opportunity.

Located in the Barguna Region in South Bangladesh, the power plant has an installed capacity of 350 megawatts.
Sitting in a crucial area of the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor, adjacent to the bay of Bengal, the plant has generated more than 300 million kilowatt-hours of power since it was first put into operation on Jan 1, 2023, injecting safe, highly-efficient and stable energy into the country's social and economic development.
Adopting supercritical units, the Barisal Power Plant is equipped with equipment designed and produced by China, including the boilers, turbines and generators. The generator units have higher efficiency and lower energy consumption and significantly less pollutant emissions than allowed by the standards set by the Bangladeshi Bank and the World Bank.
During construction of the plant, POWERCHINA made full use of local resources and fulfilled social responsibilities. It helped renovate local roads, regularly visited and donated to orphanages and established good cooperative relationships with the local government and the community.
It also provided training and employment opportunities for more than 5,000 local people, which helped many natives acquire technical skills and escape poverty.
