Jointly developed by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (SWS) and China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd., (CSTC) both subsidiaries of CSSC, KAVAFIS is 249.95 meters long and 44 meters wide, with a depth of 21.2 meters.

With a designed draft of 13.5 meters, the tanker is designed to be able to navigate with a speed of 14.5 knots and to carry more than 800,000 barrels of product oil and crude oil products.

The recently delivered tanker is the latest generation of Aframax tanker developed and designed by SWS, which has improved energy efficiency with optimized comprehensive hydrodynamic performance, arrangement of hydrodynamic energy-saving ducts and vortex fins, and optimization of main engine selection.

It meets the third phase requirements of the EEDI index of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for 2025, while also meeting the nitrogen oxide emission requirements of the Tier III as well as the 0.1 percent requirements for sulfur oxide emission, making it an environmentally-friendly, energy saving, safe and economical tanker.

SWS delivered its first Aframax tanker in April 2005. To date, the company has delivered 50 Aframax tankers, accounting for 5 percent of the total number of vessels of that type in the world.
