On March 31, with the placement of the last steel box girder, the Hanzhong-Bazhong-Nanchong High-speed Railway project - China's first dual-line high-speed railway with a high-low tower hybrid beam cable-stayed bridge - the Jialing River Bridge, was officially connected.
The project was invested by Shudao Investment Group Co., Ltd (SDIG) and designed by China Railway Fifth Survey and Design Institute Group Co., Ltd. (CRFSD) of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC). The successful connection lays a solid foundation for the project to enter operation on schedule.

The newly constructed high-speed railway (Nanchong-Bazhong section), the construction of which began at the end of 2019, has a total length of 148 kilometers and a designed speed of 250 kilometers per hour. Being the first of its kind in Bazhong, the railway connects the 3.8 million people that live in the old revolutionary base areas of Yilong, Bazhong and Nanzheng, in Sichuan and Shaanxi provinces. It will promote regional development and rural revitalization.

The northeastern region of Southwest China's Sichuan Province is known for its complex geology, dense regional rivers, and sensitive and variable environment, especially the terrain along the railway (Nanchong-Bazhong section) is the most complex. The railway marks the first time that a high-standard high-speed railway has been built in the northeastern region of Sichuan. During construction, the CRFSD fully leveraged its technical advantages, adhered to lines selection based on environmental protection and geological conditions, and actively organized special studies, all of which have significantly reduced the impact of the project on the local ecological environment and farmland, ensured the coordination between different station types, bridge and tunnel structures, and scenic spots. The Nanchong-Bazhong section has a total of 112 bridges with a total length of more than 43 kilometers.

With a total length of 1,770.8 meters and a span of 335 meters, the Jialing River Bridge is currently the longest double-line high-speed railway cable-stayed bridge under construction with a mixed high-low tower and beam structure in China. The bridge towers form a diamond shape, with heights of 164.5 meters and 120 meters, respectively, supported by 64 and 44 high-strength parallel steel wire cables, jointly supporting the main beam of the bridge.

It has been reported that all projects - The Guanghui Tunnel, Donghuashan Tunnel, Enyanghe Bridge, and Jialing River Bridge - have been completed along the high-speed railway, which is expected to enter full operation in May 2024, breaking the transportation bottleneck that has plagued the old revolutionary areas and playing an important role in accelerating the region's integration into the Chengdu-Chongqing economic zone.
