Track-laying of the entire Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway in Indonesia was completed on March 26, laying a solid foundation for full operation of the line.
Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA) was responsible for the track-laying task over 279.4 kilometers, which included 112.8 kilometers of ballast track.
A total of about 38,100 metric tons of steel rails manufactured to Chinese high-speed railway standards were used in the project, which was the first time China exported 50-meter rails to an overseas market in large quantities.

During construction, POWERCHINA taught Indonesian builders high-speed railway engineering technologies such as rail welding and track laying, helped them accumulate experience in high-speed railway construction and making them the main force of the project.
Linking Jakarta, the capital city, and Bandung, the fourth-largest city in the country, the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway is an iconic project under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and a result of cooperation between China and Indonesia.
Once operational, the railway is expected to shorten travel time between the two cities to 40 minutes, forming a express passage and realizing connectivity of infrastructure in affected areas.
It will be of great significance to the country’s economic and social development, deepening economic and trade cooperation and cultural exchanges between China and Indonesia as well as promoting Belt and Road construction.
