Contracted by China Railway Seventh Group Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Railway Group Limited (CREC), the project, located in Mpanda in Southwest Tanzania's Katawe Province, is about 1200 kilometers from Dar es Salaam, the country's economic center.
With a total length of about 108 kilometers, the road has a design speed of 100 kilometers per hour and is an important transport route from the southwestern region of Tanzania to Zambia and the Congo (DRC).

The road stretches through regions with complicated topography, including mountains, forests and swamps, as well as protected areas covering 64 kilometers. What's more, wild animals are frequently seen along the route, adding to the project's difficulties.
As a crucial national artery of Tanzania, the project is expected to greatly facilitate the travel of people in affected areas upon operation. It will also be of great significance to development of the mineral resources and agricultural development in Katawe, contributing to local economic development.
So far, China Railway Seventh Group Co., Ltd. has built nearly 1,300 kilometers of roads in Tanzania.
