Zhang Yuzhuo, Chairman of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC), met with John Lee Ka-chiu, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, on March 30 on the sidelines of the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2023. Zhang expressed his sincere gratitude to Hong Kong for its long-standing support and assistance to central state-owned enterprises (SOEs). He said that in recent years, the central SOEs have earnestly studied and implemented President Xi Jinping's important discourses on the work of the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, unswervingly implemented the "one country, two systems" policy and continued to deepen and expand cooperation with Hong Kong. In the next step, SASAC will earnestly study and implement the guiding principles of President Xi's important address at the meeting celebrating the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland, and continue to firmly support the governance of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government in accordance with the law. He noted that SASAC will give support to the region in consolidating its status as an international financial, trade and shipping center and an international aviation hub, give full play to industrial advantages to effectively help address Hong Kong citizens' concerns and difficulties, and support Hong Kong's efforts to participate in the Belt and Road Initiative and build international innovation and technology center, and continuously enhance the region's development momentum so as to make contributions to its integration into the overall development of the country and maintaining its long-term prosperity and stability.
Lee expressed his heartfelt thanks to SASAC and central SOEs for their long-standing positive contributions in supporting Hong Kong's economic development, livelihood improvement, pandemic prevention and control, and prosperity and stability. Noting that Hong Kong has unique advantages in such professional services as insurance, law and accounting, he said that he looked forward to further deepening communication and cooperation with central SOEs, complementing each other with respective advantages in areas like technological innovation, financial services and international trade, joining hands in high-quality Belt and Road construction, and jointly promoting the high-quality development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
