No. 1 Generator Unit at CGN's Ling'ao Nuclear Power Plant has Safely Operated for Over 6,000 Days

Updated: March 29, 2023

As of March 16, 2023, the No. 1 generator unit of China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN)'s Ling'ao Nuclear Power Plant in South China's Guangdong Province had continuously and safely operated for more than 6,000 days, setting an international record for the highest number of days of continuous safe operation of machinery of that kind.

The Ling'ao Nuclear Power Plant is located in the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Base, which is also home to the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant. The base has a total of six gigawatt-level nuclear power units and has been safely operated since it was put into commercial operation in 1994.

The World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) index is a main international index to assess nuclear power security levels. It's worth noting that the WANO index of 77.8 percent of the six generator units at the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Base reaches the world-leading level.

By Dec 31, 2022, the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Base had generated 892.6 billion kilowatt-hours of power, equaling that produced by burning about 269 million metric tons of standard coal and eliminating about 740 million metric tons of carbon dioxide.

About 298.8 billion kWh of the power was delivered to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, accounting for a quarter of the region's total power consumption and constantly supporting the economic and social development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
