Starting from Kwasa Damansara Station and terminating at Putrajaya Sentral Station, the 57.7-kilometer metro line has 36 stations in total.

China Railway 17th Bureau Group Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited, contributed to the section in Negeri Selangor, which included construction of two light rail stations and supporting facilities. Sungai Besi Station is 31.1 meters high, the highest and the only five-floor station along the line.

Upon operation, the metro line is expected to be a traffic artery linking the southern and northern parts of Kuala Lumpur and surrounding areas, reducing travel time between those parts for 2 million residents in affected area to half an hour. As it is connected to the light rail transit, monorail lines, national railways and the airport express railways, Line 2 will improve the region's traffic network.
