Zhang Yuzhuo Meets with Peter Lam Kin-ngok, Chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council

On March 15, Zhang Yuzhuo, Secretary of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) Party Committee and Chairman of SASAC, met with a delegation led by Dr. Peter K N Lam, Chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Chairman of the Hong Kong Belt and Road General Chamber of Commerce. Zhao Shitang, Member of the SASAC Party Committee and Vice Chairman of SASAC, also attended the meeting.

Zhang said that in recent years, the central state-owned enterprises (SOEs) have earnestly studied and implemented General Secretary Xi Jinping's important remarks on the work of the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, firmly implemented the policy of "one country, two systems", and continuously strengthened exchanges and cooperation with Hong Kong in various fields. They have also joined hands with Hong Kong to develop international markets, supported the region in fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic, served its economic and social development and improved people's livelihoods.

In the next stage, Zhang noted, the central SOEs will thoroughly study and implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech at the meeting celebrating the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland, further strengthen exchanges and communication with all sectors in Hong Kong, support Hong Kong in building a functional platform for the Belt and Road cooperation, and participate in the development of the Belt and Road and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area with high-quality performance. Central SOEs will also deepen cooperation with Hong Kong in fields such as scientific and technological innovation, basic research and the development of emerging industries, building a new ecology of the innovation and technology industry. Central SOEs will further consolidate supply services in terms of energy and power, telecommunications, and infrastructure construction in the region to support Hong Kong's long-term prosperity and stability with concrete action, Zhang added.

Dr. Peter K N Lam briefed the HKTDC's progress in promoting cooperation between Hong Kong-based enterprises and central SOEs in participating in the Belt and Road development in the past year. He said that Hong Kong is an important partner and a bridge for central SOEs to participate in co-building the Belt and Road, and the HKTDC will give full play to the region's advantages in fields of financial, legal, accounting and other professional services, and further promote cooperation with central SOEs to pool complementary advantages and strengths together in a joint drive to go global, in a bid to achieve win-win cooperation and to jointly promote high-quality development.
