XIONGAN, the world's first eco-friendly assembled U-shaped shield pipe erecting machine for utility tunnel started operation at the EA4 utility tunnel project in Xiongan New Area in North China's Hebei Province on March 2.

Developed by China Railway Group Limited, the machine is expected to help shorten the construction period by more than 20 percent compared to the traditional digging equipment. Labor is also expected to be reduced by about 80 percent.

What's more, XIONGAN has advantages in green and environmental protection technologies, which will cut down carbon dioxide emissions by 75 percent and other pollution by 50 percent.
Contracted by China Railway First Group Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of China Railway Group Limited, the EA4 utility tunnel project has a mechanized construction section of 2,959 meters, which includes various kinds of professional pipelines for water, recycled water, natural gas, power and communication. It is an underground artery to guarantee operation of the area.
Construction of the project is scheduled to be completed in January 2024.
